SOPA and u3a joined forces to host a two-part event entitled Rethinking Later Life. The event featured a varied programme of talks, activities and debate to challenge perceptions of growing older. Click on the links below to access programmes and slides from the event.

  • Programme - Rethinking Later Life – Part 2, 2nd November 2021
  • Dr Valerie Wright (University of Glasgow) and Research Fellow Jade French (University of Stirling) discussed their creative research to explore what older adults want and need from their futures:
  • Participants were able to take part in one of the following taster sessions:
    • Qigong & Tai Chi – led by u3a’s National Subject Advisor, Pat Ryan
    • Meditation/mindfulness – with professional therapist and Life Coach, Joyce Bunton
    • Laughing yoga – led by laughter yoga teacher, Judith Walker
  • Brian Taylor, former BBC Scotland political editor and journalist, chaired a lively debate on the motion “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks”. Speakers were from different ages and included Wade Academy pupils and u3a members.
